DJI Action 5 Review After 6 Months: Still a Powerhouse?

Are you wondering if the DJI Action 5 still holds up after six months of real-world use? As a full-time content creator and tech gear reviewer, I’ve been using this action camera almost daily — indoors, outdoors, in low light, and during Winnipeg winters. Here's my long-term review of the DJI Action 5 — and why I still consider it one of the best action cameras in 2025.
🛠 Build Quality & Design – Still Rugged and Reliable
The DJI Action 5 Pro has proven to be extremely durable. It’s compact, lightweight (just over 5 oz), and waterproof up to 20m without a case. The dual OLED screens are vibrant and easy to view, even in bright daylight.
After six months, mine has no cracks, scratches, or overheating issues. It’s one of the most reliable action cameras for travel and vlogging I’ve tested.
🎥 4K Video Performance – Crisp, Clean, and Smooth
One of the highlights is its 4K at 120fps video capability. With a 1/1.3” sensor, it captures impressive detail and accurate color. Whether I’m shooting b-roll for my YouTube videos or testing slow-motion clips of my Siamese cats (Arlo & Mongo), the footage looks fantastic.
Stabilization with RockSteady 3.0+ is buttery smooth — perfect for handheld shooting or filming on the go.
🌙 Low Light & Night Mode – Surprisingly Good
For a compact camera, the low-light performance is above average. DJI’s Super Night Mode helps preserve clarity and reduce noise, making it useful for evening vlogs or shooting in dimly lit spaces.
While it won’t replace a mirrorless camera, it’s one of the best low-light action cams under $500.
🔊 Audio – Great with DJI Mic 2
The built-in mics are decent, but if you want to elevate your audio, pair it with the DJI Mic 2. That’s what I use for my gear walk-and-talks and review sessions. Audio is clean, warm, and crystal clear — no sync issues, no static.
✅ Pro Tip: If you're a content creator or vlogger, this combo is hard to beat.
🔋 Battery Life – Long-Lasting + Internal Storage
One of the underrated features of the DJI Action 5 is its impressive battery life — over 2 hours of 4K60 video recording. It also includes 47GB of internal storage, which is a lifesaver when you forget your SD card.
No app crashes, no data loss — just solid, worry-free performance.
🧩 Accessories & Mounts – Creator-Friendly
I’ve used this camera with:
DJI Extension Rod
Helmet mount for hands-free vlogs
Tripod mount for desk reviews
It adapts well to any shoot and integrates into my YouTube content creation workflow using CapCut Pro and Photoshop.
👎 Downsides?
Nothing major, but here’s what I’d improve:
Front screen can lag when switching modes
No built-in ND filter (third-party required)
HDR mode can look too processed in certain lighting
Still, these are small trade-offs for the overall value and performance.
DJI Action 5 Review After 6 Months: Still a Powerhouse?
🎯 Final Thoughts: Is the DJI Action 5 Still Worth It?
Yes — the DJI Action 5 Pro is still a powerhouse. After six months of real-world use, I’m confident recommending it to vloggers, travel shooters, and anyone looking for a compact, reliable, high-quality 4K action camera in 2025.
It's still one of my go-to cameras for both YouTube and blog content creation — and a key piece in my content gear lineup.
